Couch Potato Review
The Caravan and Motorhome Book Review David Rose It’s about A4 size, is Spirax bound and the only colour you’ll find is on the simple, slightly thicker (than the lightly coated text pages) cover. This book looks and feels more like a draft manuscript but what it might lack in presentation it sure makes up for in substance according to our reviewer, an enormously experienced campervanner who has travelled the length and breadth of Tasmania and the mainland over the past 20 years. He says that The Campervan and Motorhome Book would be an enlightening and interesting read for occasional or weekend campers but would be compelling, if not mandatory, reading for those planning to get into some serious exploring away from the madding crowds. Tends of thousands of people travel Australian in caravans, campervans and motorhomes. The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia alone has 26,000 members, increasing by 300 per month. For retirees in particular (like our reviewer), such travelling is a regular way of life. However, according to the author of The Campervan and Motorhome Book, retired engineer, journalist and author Collyn Rivers, little independent information had been available about buying, building, converting or even using such vehicles. So he filled that void. The 87 page book is packed with simply presented
easy-to-understand information on what vehicle to buy; advice on building
your own; gas, water and electrical systems; TV reception; solar power;
legal issues; how to save money and much, much more. |
